Fly Fishing

Water runs like a thread through the canyon, lakes, and ponds at Storm Mountain. It cascades from lake to lake, and creeks and ditches flow year round. The water is private, and at Storm Mountain Ranch we are committed to creating and maintaining an outstanding fishery and good fish habitat. We fish the creek, the ponds, the lakes, and the ditches. We can fish in waders, from the shore, or from one of the lake's flat-bottomed Adirondack guide boats elegantly hand-crafted of cedar. There are big fish, fighters, and plenty of them.

Awapa Lodge, surrounded by water on three sides, is our base for lake fishing, tying flies, and telling fish stories. Walton Creek, running with Brook and Rainbow trout, offers even more private fly fishing excitement. The canyon's remote Hideout Cabin can serve as a staging point for fishing the upper reaches of Walton Creek.

All fishing in Storm Mountain Ranch waters is catch and release only, except for Rodeo Pond. Any owner may keep up to one fish per week from Rodeo Pond. In order to do minimal damage to trout you catch, we ask all fishermen to please cramp the barb on their flies or use barbless hooks to tie your flies. During catch and release fishing, please take extra care handling and quickly releasing your catch. Please always wet your hands before touching the fish. Dry hands will rub off a trout's mucous slime and greatly reduce its survival chance. Thanks for keeping our excellent fishery healthy!
